| Reverse description | Hammered reverse displaying a rectangular cartouche with a decorative border of beaded dots, enclosing three lines of Nastaliq Arabic script identifying the issuing authority and ruler. The central legend reads 'Zarb Ahmadshahi' (struck at Ahmadshahi mint) above 'Ayub Shah' and 'Sultan Ghazi,' denoting the reigning Barakzai amir. The cartouche is framed by floral or foliate ornamental devices in the surrounding field, consistent with Afghan rupee coinage of the early nineteenth century. The flan edges are irregular and the strike uneven, characteristic of hand-hammered production. |
