Sironj was a jagir town in the Malwa region whose feudatory coinage operated under the nominal authority of the Mughal emperor — in this case, Alamgir II, who reigned from 1754 until his murder in 1759, almost certainly arranged by his own wazir, Imad-ul-Mulk. The regnal years on issues like this one tracked the emperor whose name lent legitimacy to the strike, even as Mughal central authority over Malwa had effectively collapsed under Maratha pressure decades earlier.
Indore's feudatory at Sironj was one of several small minting authorities exploiting the fiction of imperial sanction. The five-year window this type spans corresponds precisely to Alamgir II's entire reign.
