| Obverse description | Central field displays the name of Amir Abdur Rahman in large, bold Arabic calligraphy, rendered in a fluid, intertwined script style characteristic of Afghan hammered coinage of the period. The AH regnal year appears at the bottom of the central legend. The entire design is enclosed within a toothed (dentilated) inner border, with the irregular flan giving the coin its characteristic uneven outline. Small floral or dotted ornamental devices are interspersed among the letterforms. The overall execution is typical of hand-struck Afghan silver rupees of the late 19th century. |
