Nepal's 1 Rupee notes of this long-running series were issued under the Finance Ministry rather than the central bank — a deliberate policy distinction that Nepal maintained for small-denomination currency well into the modern period, with the Nepal Rastra Bank handling higher values while the government retained direct control over the lowest tier. Thomas De La Rue printed the series in London throughout, a relationship Nepal had maintained since the early years of modern note issuance.
The eighteen-year print span under a single Pick number almost certainly encompasses multiple signature varieties, which collectors treat as meaningfully distinct despite the absence of separate catalogue references.
