Reverse description The reverse presents a bold allegorical composition depicting a standing male figure, shown from behind in three-quarter view, raising both arms to part or hold aloft a large cascading waterfall or flowing drapery that dominates the left portion of the field, symbolising the harnessing of natural resources for the newly independent nation. The denomination ONE RUPEE and date 1949 are inscribed along the left periphery in Latin script. The Devanagari legend एक रुपया appears along the upper right arc, with the Urdu legend in Nastaliq script positioned along the lower right arc. The design is a unique and ambitious artistic statement befitting an experimental pattern issue.
