Zair Azgur was one of the Soviet Union's most decorated sculptors, responsible for dozens of official portrait busts of wartime generals and political figures produced during and after World War II. His Minsk studio, preserved as a museum since his death in 1995, holds over 300 works. This issue belongs to Belarus's long-running "Outstanding People of Belarus" series in base metal — the copper-nickel rouble being the workhorse format for that program throughout the 2000s.
