Obverse description The State coat of arms of the Soviet Union occupies the upper portion of the obverse, depicting a hammer and sickle superimposed on a globe, framed by wheat sheaves bound with a ribbon, and surmounted by a five-pointed star. The abbreviation CCCP (USSR) appears in large Cyrillic characters flanking the lower portion of the arms, divided across the horizontal register. Below a plain dividing line, the denomination numeral 1 is prominently displayed in the lower field, with the word РУБЛЬ (Rouble) inscribed beneath it.
