Part of Belarus's long-running zodiac series, this rouble was issued as a collectible from the outset — never intended for general circulation. The National Bank of Belarus produced numerous commemorative cupro-nickel roubles throughout the 2000s, a revenue strategy common among smaller post-Soviet states whose collector issues often outsold anything moving through domestic commerce.
Virgo was released as one of twelve pieces completing the zodiac set, with individual signs issued across several years rather than simultaneously.
