| Reverse description | At centre, the iconic stylised letter M — the official logo of the Moscow Metro — rendered in polished relief against a deeply frosted black field, creating a striking contrast characteristic of high-quality proof coinage. The circular legend МОСКОВСКИЙ МЕТРОПОЛИТЕН (Moscow Metro) runs along the full periphery of the reverse, separated from the logo by an unadorned field, with the lettering evenly spaced around the circumference. |

Issued to mark the 85th anniversary of the Moscow Metro, which opened on 15 May 1935 under Stalin's direct patronage — a project he used as a showcase of Soviet industrial ambition, with the first line running from Sokolniki to Park Kultury. Construction involved forced labor and the work of thousands of Gulag prisoners alongside regular workers, a history the anniversary commemorations have never dwelt upon.
