Along the upper rim, the denomination ОДИН РУБЛЬ (ONE ROUBLE) is inscribed, while the year of issue 2005 appears along the lower rim. This rouble belongs to a long-running Bank of Russia commemorative program honoring the branches of the Russian armed forces, issued across the mid-2000s as small-mintage silver pieces. The Russian Naval Infantry — the Marines — traces its institutional origins to Peter the Great's decree of 1705, making it one of the oldest continuously existing formations in the Russian military.
