| Additional information |
Transnistria — the narrow strip between the Dniester River and the Ukrainian border — declared independence from Moldova in 1990, a claim no UN member state recognizes. Its currency exists in a legal gray zone, accepted domestically but unconvertible anywhere else. The Transnistrian Republican Bank has issued coins largely as collector pieces; day-to-day commerce relies heavily on Russian rubles and informal exchange.
The Taurus zodiac rouble is part of a twelve-coin series issued across several years. These circulate in name but are rarely spent.
