Transnistria's plastic commemorative roubles get most of the attention, but the bank has quietly issued steel circulation coinage since the early 2000s for a territory recognised by no UN member state. The Slobodzeya issue is one of a regional series celebrating the administrative districts of the self-declared republic — a geography lesson pressed into nickel-clad steel for a country most atlases decline to print.
