Additional information

Nesvizh Castle, the subject of this issue, was the principal residence of the Radziwiłł family — one of the most powerful noble dynasties in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania — and remained in their possession for over four centuries until Soviet confiscation in 1939. The Belarusian National Bank has issued collector roubles tied to UNESCO World Heritage sites with some regularity, and the partial oxidation treatment here is applied deliberately to articulate architectural surface detail rather than as a patina effect.

The castle's restoration, ongoing since the 1990s, was still incomplete when UNESCO added the site to its World Heritage List in 2005.
