Krasnaya Rechka was a prisoner of war and internment camp operating in the Russian Far East during the chaotic Allied intervention period following the Bolshevik revolution. Camp scrip of this type was a practical necessity — rouble currency was in spectacular disorder by 1919, with dozens of competing authorities issuing their own notes across Siberia, and the camp command had every reason to create a controlled internal medium rather than rely on whatever paper happened to be in circulation outside the wire.
Very few examples of Krasnaya Rechka scrip survive in any condition. The ephemeral nature of camp currency — used hard, discarded, or simply lost — accounts for most of the attrition.
