Francysk Skaryna — the Belarusian polymath who produced the first printed books in the East Slavic world in the early sixteenth century — spent years in Padua, where he earned a doctorate in medicine from the university in 1512. That institution's records of his examination survive and remain one of the few contemporary documentary sources confirming his biography with any precision. This coin belongs to a broader National Bank series tracing his journey across European cities connected to his life and publishing work.
