1 Rouble Common turtledove

Belarus has issued collectible rouble coinage in copper-nickel for decades, but the wildlife series to which this piece belongs expanded significantly after 2020, when the Lukashenko government's international isolation made foreign-denominated commemorative programs increasingly difficult to sustain. The common turtledove — once abundant across Europe and Central Asia — has undergone one of the steepest population collapses of any migratory bird recorded in the 20th and 21st centuries, losing an estimated 98% of its European breeding population since the 1980s.
