Obverse description The obverse features a central oval vignette depicting a common turtledove rendered in fine detail, set against a dark field and framed by two stylised outstretched hands, evoking a sense of protection. The national emblem of the Republic of Belarus appears in the upper portion of the coin, flanked by the curved legend РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ along the upper periphery. The denomination 1 РУБЕЛЬ is inscribed along the lower periphery in bold Cyrillic characters. The date 2023 appears within the central vignette to the right of the bird. Additional information

Belarus has issued collectible rouble coinage in copper-nickel for decades, but the wildlife series to which this piece belongs expanded significantly after 2020, when the Lukashenko government's international isolation made foreign-denominated commemorative programs increasingly difficult to sustain. The common turtledove — once abundant across Europe and Central Asia — has undergone one of the steepest population collapses of any migratory bird recorded in the 20th and 21st centuries, losing an estimated 98% of its European breeding population since the 1980s.
