1 Rouble Church of St. Michael in Navahrudak

Navahrudak — known in Polish as Nowogródek — was the birthplace of Adam Mickiewicz, the defining poet of Polish Romanticism, and the town's Catholic church of St. Michael has stood in various forms on its hill since the 15th century. The current structure was built in the late 16th century and survived the successive occupations, border shifts, and population destructions that made this part of Belarus one of the most contested territories in Eastern Europe. During the Soviet period the building was repurposed and stripped of its religious function for decades before being returned to the parish after 1991.
