Transnistria's zodiac rouble series was issued by the Transnistrian Republican Bank, the central bank of a breakaway state that declared independence from Moldova in 1990 but remains unrecognized by any UN member nation. The series offered the bank a rare avenue for international numismatic revenue, since Transnistrian currency has no legal tender status outside its own territory and limited practical circulation even within it.
