Part of Belarus's long-running Braslaw Lakes series, this issue was released the same year the national park was being actively promoted for UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status — a designation it would not receive under that program, though it remains one of the largest protected areas in the country. The Braslaw Lakes district in Vitebsk Oblast sits on a glacially-formed lake system and serves as a significant migratory corridor for birds moving through Eastern Europe, which explains the ornithological focus of several coins in this series.
