Part of Russia's ongoing commemorative military series, this rouble was issued to mark the 100th anniversary of armoured forces in Russia — a lineage the Russian military traces back to the armoured car detachments formed during the First World War, though the formal establishment of tank forces came with the Red Army's mechanisation drives of the 1920s and 30s. The centenary framing required some institutional creativity in its counting.
Struck at the Moscow Mint to the standard .925 fineness used across this commemorative series, with mintages typically modest enough to keep secondary market premiums stable but not spectacular.
