Alena Aladova (1922–1996) was a Belarusian painter associated with the decorative and applied arts movement in Soviet Belarus, and one of the few women of her generation to receive sustained institutional recognition from the Belarusian Artists' Union. This rouble belongs to a series the National Bank issued honoring figures in Belarusian culture — a program that accelerated sharply after independence as part of a deliberate effort to codify a national artistic canon distinct from broader Soviet identity.
Copper-nickel commemoratives of this type saw limited circulation and were primarily sold directly to collectors through the bank.
