Reverse description A cross fleurée at center, with each of the four quarters containing a crowned passant lion to the left; the entire design is enclosed within a double octolobed arched border with trefoil ornaments filling the spandrels between the arches. The date 85 (for 1585) and the Middelburg mint mark appear within the reverse legend. The overall composition is highly decorative and reflects the late Gothic heraldic style characteristic of contemporary Low Countries gold coinage.
