The peripheral legend in Latin reads +1601+ MO.NO.ORDIN.WESTFRISIÆ, denoting this as a new coin of the Estates of West Friesland. The coin is struck by hammer on an irregular flan, resulting in a slightly uneven outline characteristic of early 17th-century provincial Dutch coinage.
