Ajman, smallest of the Trucial States by both area and population, had no meaningful monetary infrastructure of its own in 1969 — the Qatar and Dubai Riyal was the currency actually circulating there. These issues were produced explicitly for the collector and proof set market, a practice common among the smaller Trucial sheikhdoms in the years immediately before UAE federation in 1971. The "2 dates" designation refers to both the Gregorian and Hijri calendar dates appearing on the coin, a feature that distinguishes KM#1.1 from related varieties.
Mintage figures for Ajman issues of this period are poorly documented and likely small. Most survivors show no circulation whatsoever.
