Bradbury Wilkinson produced this series under contract during a period when Bank Negara Malaysia was actively developing its domestic security printing capability — the government-owned Security Printing Corporation (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. had been established in 1968, but Bradbury Wilkinson retained work on certain lower denominations well into the 1980s before the contract relationship wound down entirely.
The P#19 issue represents the last Ringgit 1 notes printed by a foreign contractor. Subsequent 1 Ringgit notes shifted entirely to domestic production, making this series the close of an outsourcing arrangement that dated back to the federation's earliest banknote contracts.
