Sveriges Rikes Ständers Bank — the Estates of the Realm Bank — was the predecessor to the Riksbank in name as much as structure, still formally accountable to the four estates of the Swedish parliament rather than the crown. That constitutional awkwardness was already under pressure during the 1859–1865 window of this issue; the Riksbank Act of 1866 effectively ended the old arrangement when the bicameral Riksdag replaced the estate system entirely.
The riksdaler riksmynt was a decimal subdivision unit introduced in 1855, replacing the older riksdaler species and riksdaler banco system. Four riksdaler riksmynt equalled one riksdaler riksgälds, a conversion that confused daily commerce for years. This 1 riksmynt note sat at the lowest practical paper denomination — coin handled most transactions at this level, which kept print runs modest and surviving examples correspondingly thin.
