Carl XIII was a childless king manipulated by competing factions into adopting Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte — a Napoleonic marshal with no Swedish blood — as crown prince in 1810. The 'NORR' in the coin's title refers to the incorporation of Norway into a Swedish-Norwegian union following the Treaty of Kiel in 1814, a geopolitical reshuffling that forced a mid-series legend change on this riksdaler type to acknowledge the new dual monarchy.
The .878 fineness is notably below the contemporary European silver standard, a deliberate policy reflecting Sweden's depleted treasury after decades of Continental warfare.
