Frederik VII's rigsdaler series of 1854–55 arrived at a moment of acute fiscal strain: Denmark was still absorbing the costs of the First Schleswig War (1848–51) and managing the complicated monetary union obligations that would eventually collapse into the Second Schleswig conflict of 1864. The rigsdaler itself was already living on borrowed time — the entire rigsmønt system it anchored would be abolished in 1873 when Denmark joined the Scandinavian Monetary Union and adopted the krone.
KM#760 is distinguished from adjacent issues by its .875 fineness, a deliberate step down from earlier Danish silver standards reflecting post-war budget pressure on bullion procurement.
