Additional information

The Royal Opera House Muscat opened in October 2011 after roughly a decade of construction, the first world-class opera house on the Arabian Peninsula. Sultan Qaboos, who had studied at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and developed a lifelong passion for Western classical music, personally drove the project and was known to compose music himself. This coin was issued to coincide with that opening.

The venue's inaugural season featured the Berliner Philharmoniker.
