Al-Rustaq Fort, one of the largest fortifications in Oman, served as the seat of the Ya'aruba Imamate during the 17th century and was repeatedly expanded to counter Portuguese and later Persian incursions along the Batinah coast. The 1995 issue falls within the Central Bank of Oman's sustained commemorative silver program, which ran through the 1990s largely targeting collector markets rather than circulation — most pieces went directly into presentation sets.
