Obverse description Against a mirror-proof black field, the national emblem of Oman — comprising two crossed khanjar daggers overlaid on a pair of crossed swords — occupies the centre of the coin. The denomination appears in both Latin script ('ONE RIAL') to the left and Arabic script ('ريال واحد') to the right of the emblem. An inner legend in Arabic script reading 'سلطنة عمان' (Sultanate of Oman) curves above the emblem, while the legend 'SULTANATE OF OMAN' curves below it in Latin script. The outer legend 'CENTRAL BANK OF OMAN' runs along the lower periphery in Latin script, with its Arabic equivalent arching along the upper border, all framed by a beaded inner border.

Reverse description The reverse displays a large, stylised coloured emblem of Muscat as Capital of Arab Culture 2006, rendered in vivid blue, red, yellow, and white against a mirror-proof black field. The central motif depicts an abstract architectural form evoking a traditional dhow sail or a modern cultural monument, incorporating within it a decorative cartouche bearing Arabic calligraphy in red and gold. Below the coloured emblem, the Arabic legend 'عاصمة الثقافة العربية' (Capital of Arab Culture) appears in red, also rendered in colour. The design fills the majority of the field, with a plain silver rim encircling the composition.
