| Obverse description | The obverse field is entirely occupied by a bold Persian-Naskh calligraphic legend arranged in two horizontal registers divided by a ruled line, reading 'السّلطان فتحعلی شاه قاجار' (Al-Sultan Fath Ali Shah Qajar) in the upper register and the AH regnal date ۱۲۱۶ in the lower register. The deeply struck, large-format Arabic script fills virtually the entire flan, rendered in the characteristic bold hammered style of early Qajar coinage. The flat, unadorned field surrounding the legend bears no decorative border, consistent with the utilitarian aesthetic of Qajar rial-denomination issues. Minor flan irregularities and edge weakness are evident, typical of hammered production. |
