The Al Busaid dynasty has ruled Oman continuously since 1744, when Ahmad ibn Said expelled the Persians from Sohar and was elected imam — a political and religious consolidation that gave the dynasty an unusually durable foundation compared to contemporaries across the Arabian Peninsula. Oman's imperial reach at its peak extended to Zanzibar and coastal East Africa, territories held until the 1964 revolution.
At 113.40 grams of .999 silver across a 75mm planchet, this is a display piece by any practical measure — closer in character to a medallic issue than a circulating denomination.
