Obverse description The obverse features the national emblem of the Sultanate of Oman at center — two crossed khanjar daggers overlaid on a pair of crossed swords — rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The Arabic legend البنك المركزي العُماني (Central Bank of Oman) arcs along the upper periphery, with سلطنة عُمان (Sultanate of Oman) inscribed on a secondary arc immediately below. The denomination ريال واحد appears to the right and ONE RIAL to the left of the central emblem, both in incuse lettering. The legend SULTANATE OF OMAN curves along the lower inner circle, while CENTRAL BANK OF OMAN arcs in larger Latin characters along the outer lower border, separated from the field by a beaded inner ring.

Additional information

Oman's annual National Day coinage program, administered directly by the Central Bank, has produced commemorative silver issues nearly every year since the early 1970s — each tied to a specific theme chosen to reflect the sultanate's natural or cultural heritage. The Yellow-vented Bulbul, native to the Arabian Peninsula's coastal and cultivated zones, was selected for the 39th National Day falling on November 18, 2009, marking thirty-nine years since Sultan Qaboos bin Said deposed his father in the 1970 palace coup and initiated Oman's rapid modernization.

Mintage figures for this series are typically kept low, issued primarily for collectors rather than circulation.
