| Obverse description | The national emblem of the Sultanate of Oman occupies the central field, depicting a khanjar (traditional curved dagger) within its sheath superimposed upon two crossed swords. A circular legend in Arabic reading 'البَنك المركَزي العُمَاني' and 'سَلطَنة عُمَان' surrounds the emblem, accompanied by the English inscriptions 'CENTRAL BANK OF OMAN' and 'SULTANATE OF OMAN'. Oman's National Day commemorates the 1970 coup in which Qaboos bin Said deposed his father, Said bin Taimur, in a palace takeover backed by British intelligence and the SAS. Said bin Taimur had kept Oman deliberately isolated — banning sunglasses, radios, and most travel — and Qaboos moved immediately to modernize the country using oil revenues that his father had largely refused to deploy.
The 39th anniversary places this issue in 2009, thirty-nine years after that coup.
