The Deutsche Rentenbank was technically a private institution created in 1923 to issue the Rentenmark and halt the catastrophic hyperinflation that had destroyed the Reichsmark. By 1937 the Rentenbank still existed — quietly, awkwardly — alongside the Reichsbank, and low-denomination Rentenmark notes continued circulating well into the Nazi period simply because small-change paper remained useful and the regime saw no pressing reason to retire them.
This 1937 date places the note among the last printings of the series before wartime disruptions. Rentenmark notes of all denominations remained legal tender until the 1948 currency reform swept away the entire prewar and wartime paper structure in the Western zones.
