Superimposed upon this host is the El Salvador Type V countermark of 1868, applied within a small circle and depicting a Liberty cap above the national shield flanked by draped flags; the specific Type V countermark may appear as a plain Liberty cap above shield on draped flags within a 10 mm circle, a radiant Liberty cap above shield on draped flags within a 12 mm circle, or a Liberty cap above shield within branches in a 12 mm circle. The overall coin shows significant wear consistent with circulation of the underlying host prior to countermarking. |
