| Beschrijving voorzijde | Obverse of the host coin featuring the draped and laureate bust of King Ferdinand VII facing right, occupying the central field. The surrounding legend reads FERDIN • VII • DEI • GRATIA • with the date 1820 appearing in the lower exergue. Applied over the bust is the Costa Rican Type I countermark, consisting of a crowned 'F' (for Fernando) within a beaded circular punch, officially applied by the Casa Nacional de Moneda de Costa Rica to validate the host coin for local circulation. The coin has been cut and holed, as was typical of Costa Rican emergency currency practice, with a circular hole visible to the right of center. The host coin shows the characteristic milled Spanish colonial style with a raised toothed border. |
