| 背面描述 | Central device depicts the Argentine national coat of arms: an oval shield divided horizontally, the upper half featuring a rising sun and the lower half with horizontal lines, supported by a laurel and olive wreath tied at the base with a ribbon. The denomination mark 'R' appears to the right of the shield, with mint initials flanking the date in the exergue. The circular legend EN UNION Y LIBERTAD runs along the periphery within a beaded border. |

La Rioja began striking its own coinage in the early 1820s following the collapse of centralized authority in the former Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. With Buenos Aires unable — and often unwilling — to supply the interior provinces with adequate circulating money, regional mints filled the gap on their own terms. La Rioja's issues from this period are notably inconsistent in execution, a direct consequence of limited equipment and an irregular supply of refined silver from local sources.
KM#17 is among the scarcer provincial types from this federalist period. The 1825-dated examples are considerably harder to locate than those of 1824.
