Córdoba's provincial coinage of this period was a direct consequence of the Argentine Confederation's failure to establish a unified national currency — each province struck its own issues well into the mid-nineteenth century, operating under the fragmented fiscal reality of caudillo-era politics. Córdoba's silver reales circulated primarily in the interior, where Buenos Aires paper currency carried little trust.
The two CJ varieties documented for this type differ in die details subtle enough to require close examination of the lettering and star punches.
