| 正面铭文 | EDVARDVS REX PORT E-D L (Lisboa mint) |
| 背面描述 | The reverse displays a quartered royal shield of Portugal, showing the five quinas (escutcheons) of the Portuguese arms arranged in a cross pattern within a beaded inner circle. Each escutcheon contains the traditional arrangement of bezants. The shield is rendered in relief in the characteristic medieval Portuguese hammered style. A circular legend in uncial Latin script surrounds the shield, reading EDVARDVS REX PORT. The flan is irregular with uneven edges consistent with hand-struck medieval coinage. |

Duarte I's reign lasted just five years before his death from plague in 1438, making his copper issues among the shortest-produced of any Portuguese medieval series. The "Preto" designation — meaning black — referred not to any official classification but to the darkened appearance these copper pieces took on rapidly in circulation, distinguishing them by color from the silver coinage in everyday use.
Gomes Du.02 is the scarcer of the two catalogued Real Preto types for this reign.
