Additional information

Cundinamarca declared itself an independent state in 1811 under its own constitution, predating the broader federation that would eventually become Gran Colombia. These reales were struck during an extraordinarily volatile window — Spanish royalist forces retook Bogotá in 1816 during the Reconquista, and the provisional republican minting apparatus was dismantled. Coins produced in this short interval were struck with inconsistent dies and variable fineness, which accounts for the range of die varieties catalogued under Hernández 133–138.
