Obverse description Central device consisting of a quartered heraldic shield enclosed within a lobed or polylobed bordure, each quarter bearing the arms of Aragon (vertical pales). The shield is divided by a plain cross forming four compartments. The date 1651 appears in the left field alongside the circular Latin legend. The overall style is characteristic of late Spanish hammered coinage, with irregular flan and variable strike depth.
