Obverse description Central field features the elaborate coat of arms of Honduras, depicting a volcanic landscape within an oval cartouche inscribed REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS and dated 1821, flanked by two standing allegorical figures and crossed cannons above a trophy of arms, all surmounted by a mural crown with plumes. A circular legend surrounds the composition reading JOSE · MARIA · MEDINA · CAPITAN · GENERAL · PRESIDENTE · REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS, honoring the incumbent president. The engraver's name TASSET appears in the lower exergue, identifying this piece as a Paris-struck pattern prepared by the French die-cutter Tasset.
