Obverse description The obverse displays the coat of arms of Honduras centrally, featuring a triangular cartouche at the top enclosing a radiant sun rising over a mountain range flanked by two castles or towers. Below, an elaborate landscape scene depicts a coastal panorama with sailing ships at sea on either side and a fortified town or citadel set against a backdrop of mountains. The entire central device is framed by a draped and knotted cloth or banner, rendered with fine sculptural detail. The circumferential legend reads REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS in the upper arc and AMERICA CENTRAL in the lower arc, separated by decorative elements. The engraver's signature BARRE appears at the base of the design within the beaded border.
