Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the center of the field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle with wings displayed, perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent in its beak. The device is flanked below by a laurel branch on the right and an oak branch on the left, tied together at the base with a ribbon. The circular legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA arcs along the upper periphery in Latin characters, terminating at either side near the branches.
