| 正面描述 | Central field dominated by a quartered shield displaying the royal arms of Portugal, with the quinas (five escutcheons bearing bezants) arranged in cruciform pattern, surrounded by the castles of the bordure. The shield is surmounted by a crown and flanked by the Gothic initial letters I (for Iohannes) and L (for Lisboa mint mark). A circular legend in uncial Latin script runs along the periphery. Optional secret symbols may appear to the left and right of the shield depending on the emission. The design is characteristic of the hammered coinage of João I, executed in a bold Gothic style. |
