Córdoba's provincial coinage of this period was a direct consequence of Buenos Aires' monopoly on customs revenue — interior provinces, starved of federal funds, struck their own silver to pay troops and local creditors. This piece dates to the middle of Rosas' second governorship, when interprovincial monetary fragmentation was at its most acute and Córdoba's mint operated under chronic silver shortages that made consistent planchet quality nearly impossible to maintain.
