Córdoba's independent coinage of the 1840s reflects the chronic fragmentation of Argentine monetary authority during the decades following independence, when provincial governments struck their own silver rather than wait on a functional national mint. The 1843 issue came during a period when Rosas dominated the Confederation politically but exercised no effective control over Córdoba's fiscal apparatus.
